After more than a decade of litigation, Sutter Health has agreed to pay $228.5 million to settle claims that it abused its market dominance to drive up healthcare costs across Northern California. If your organization paid premiums for a fully insured health plan in the region between 2011 and 2021, you may be entitled to a portion of this recovery.

What’s the Case About?
Sutter Health allegedly forced insurance carriers—including Blue Shield, Anthem, Aetna, Health Net, and UnitedHealthcare—into “all-or-nothing” contracts. These arrangements prevented insurers from steering patients to more cost-effective hospitals, ultimately raising premiums for businesses and individuals across 38 Northern California counties.
