Update: Preliminary approval has been granted (March 20, 2026) for a new Acute Care Hospital Opioids Settlement in San Miguel Hospital Corp., et al. v. Richard Sackler, et al. (D.N.M.), establishing a settlement fund of approximately $174.2 million.
This settlement represents an additional recovery opportunity specifically for Acute Care Hospitals, stemming from allegations that members of the Sackler family and related entities contributed to the opioid epidemic and the resulting financial and operational burdens on hospitals treating patients with opioid use disorder and related conditions.

Previous Round: This significant class action addresses the severe impact of the opioid crisis on Acute Care Hospitals across the United States. Plaintiffs allege that several major drug distributors and manufacturers played a role in the opioid epidemic, resulting in financial strain on healthcare facilities nationwide. This $651 million settlement fund aims to compensate these hospitals for the increased costs incurred while treating individuals affected by opioid-related conditions.

Settling Defendants: $390 million from key distributors (Cencora, Cardinal Health, and McKesson), $100 million from Janssen, and additional funds from Teva and Allergan.
Claim Period: Eligible claims must relate to treatment provided between January 1, 2009, and October 30, 2024.
Claim Deadline: March 4, 2025

Quick Pay Option: A streamlined process offering an automatic $5,000 payout for hospitals that submit a registration form.
Model Method: For hospitals able to provide detailed documentation of damages, this option may yield higher compensation by allowing hospitals to submit comprehensive claims data.
